AdventHealth dedicates four hours per month for nurses in its Service Line Expert Extenders program to grow their EHR skills and share knowledge with their units. With part-time extenders in 85% of units, nurses saved an average of 28 minutes per shift on documentation, and nurse turnover was 21% lower when extenders participated in the Professional Excellence Program.

The organization reduced the average length of stay for patients with sepsis by two days and reduced mortality by 18%—representing 110 lives saved in one year.

Through a grant-funded partnership with the NYC Health Department, NYC Health + Hospitals increased referrals to free early intervention services for children with developmental delays. Employing referral forms in Epic and community health workers, the organization improved the referral rate by 30%. Children received services starting at 18-23 months on average, compared with the New York City average of 24-29 months.

Virtual Wards Help Patients Recover at Home, Free Up Hospital Capacity Across England

Three NHS Foundation Trusts in England established virtual wards to alleviate hospital capacity constraints by providing acute care in patients’ homes. The trusts use Epic to refer patients to the virtual wards and ensure continuity of care. One organization’s virtual ward cared for 1,800 patients in the first year, freeing up more than 4,000 bed hours.
